Artist’s Bio

Based in Ashland, MA, Elisabeth has worked with a variety of mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, graphite, oil, adobe suite, and photography. She has over five years of professional experience as a graphic designer for a variety of organizations, including Adventure Unlimited and The Christian Science Publishing Society. As a graphic designer, she has created illustrations, logos, book covers, page layouts and other marketing materials. She has even helped a startup develop their branding, website, social media and email marketing.

Elisabeth’s love for animals, nature, movement, and family inspire her work. Her mothering heart encompasses her art, nurturing it as it grows until it’s complete. An essential part of Elisabeth’s identity is the love and support she has received within her family. She transmits her inherited passion into her work through dedication and persistence, which creates a quality product. To her, art is more than a nice looking picture, it’s a gift. Her hope is that her art inspires and uplifts those who encounter it––that they feel the love and care in each stroke and in turn, feel embraced by Love.

After completing her B.A. in Fine Arts at Principia College with the James L. Green Merit Scholarship for the Arts, she received the Adelaide Carroll Johnson Art Award in 2016. Original paintings were featured in the Illinois Board of Higher Education Art Exhibition as well as in the Senior Art Exhibit at Principia College. She went on to live in Colorado for a few years, and later, moved home to Massachusetts. Elisabeth has sold her artwork in varying states while balancing commissions, which includes logo design, paintings and freelance graphic design work.

Artist's Statement

Growing up as a dancer, I have always been attracted to motion. Within my artwork, you can see how the suggestion of movement is incorporated and explored. Some ways this is done is through composing images which catch the subject in motion, and through the use of an active brush stroke.

My deep love for animals and people is another quality which supports my artwork. Driven by this love, I tend to focus on live subjects within my compositions. I strive to express life, action, and emotion in my artwork.

The idea that all life is in some way connected is one I love to ponder. To feed this interest, I created a series of portraits in oil. Through my portraits, I strive to bridge a connection between myself and the subject, which then, hopefully, extends to my viewer. After painting the shapes and colors that make up people’s faces, it is obvious these physical factors do not support the true expression of the individual. My search is to find a unique way to capture the identity of who I’m portraying.

I’m led to focus on the face because that is the area through which we all interact. When having a conversation, we hold eye contact. We understand our surroundings through our senses which are all centered around one’s face. The face symbolizes, to me, a home base for information relevant to one’s experience. I am curious to understand this experience.
